A Summit All About Happiness

I never expected to feel such a warmth of energy and connection at the Gross Global Happiness Summit at the UN University for Peace. Before I went, I was working on my story that I would be presenting and had a few meetings with my fellow presenters who I couldn't wait to meet in person. Two amazing women—Karena Kilcoyne and Marta Elliot. They would be sharing their stories of resilience as well.

Once there, I immediately connected with people on the way from the airport to the hotel, on the shuttle to UPeace and within the context of the sessions and breaks. They said connection is one of the main takeaways from this Summit, and they were right. People from all over the world, coming together with one purpose: to learn and spread happiness and to connect with others.

Happiness can mean so many different things and I was curious to hear what others were saying about it. To me, it is a quiet smile inside and out. It is in the slowing down and breathing in the energy of nature. It is community. It is service. It is being there for a friend or reaching out to a stranger with a smile or other act of kindness. It is gratitude.

It isn't in the striving and acquisition of things, it is right here waiting to be noticed.

When we get caught up in the busy-ness of life, we forget to notice what is here in this moment. Even in hard times, there are always little places where happiness is hiding in plain site. Where do you find happiness?
