When you think of letting go, most people tend to think of big things because we think that would create the most freedom. But, what if you can't let go of any big things?
What if thinking really small was the answer. Think micro moments. Tiny moments that tell your body, brain and nervous system "hey, things are okay, I don't have to be overwhelmed".
In this video, I list 3 things you can do to reduce anxiety and overwhelm that are easy, quick and can make a profound difference in how you feel.
Even just pausing for 30 seconds to find your breath can make a huge difference. In 30 seconds you can complete 3 breath cycles (inhale for 5 seconds/exhale 5 seconds), which is the amount of time you need to access your thinking brain so you can choose your response to the situation.
Many people live in their heads, which often disconnects them from their bodies and the sensations of the moment. Tuning into your body to scan for areas of tension, contraction or any other sensation that you can help ground you into the present moment and give you a target to direct the breath to create space in that area. Let go on the exhale.
Expectations are a big source of overwhelm and anxiety. I always seem to have a disconnect between the time it really takes to accomplish something and the time I think it will take or that I alot to getting it done. This creates anxiety when I come up short. I have seen this in lots of other people too, so I know I am in good company. If you can't let go of an expectation, can you redefine it? It may take a little creativity but it can transform how you feel.
If you feel like you are having difficulty or are unable to get loosen the grip of anxiety in the moment, you might need fast, easy actions that can tame your runaway nervous system. Download the Anxiety Relief Toolkit to help you find calm in the moment.
